Ford Viscosity Plastic Cup 4mm 100ml
Item internal code: S-092
Description:
A Ford cup (viscometer) is a vessel used to measure the viscosity of liquids, e.g. liquid paints, varnishes. The shape, capacity and diameter of the hole in the bottom depends on the type of cup. Viscosity is measured by filling the cup with the liquid to be measured and allowing the liquid to flow freely through a hole in the bottom of the cup. The time of complete outflow of the liquid given in seconds is directly proportional to the viscosity of the liquid. Since the viscosity of the liquid decreases with increasing temperature, it was assumed that the same conditions were used for measurement: temperature 20 °C, pressure 1.01325•10-1 MPa.
The discharge cup is especially useful when preparing paints and varnishes for spray application with an air gun, where it is important to prepare a working mixture diluted to a specific viscosity. The cup is also used in printing, e.g. for measuring the viscosity of dispersion varnishes. In Poland, the most widespread is the Ford cup with a diameter of 4 mm of the outlet hole.
