Operation principle of a TIG welder at 400V

  • Power supply: The welder is powered from a three-phase 400V network.
  • Welding arc: An electric arc is generated from a non-consumable tungsten electrode, placed in the TIG torch, which melts the workpiece material.
  • Alternating current (AC): Welding with alternating current operates on the principle of cyclically changing the direction of current flow, which is crucial when welding aluminum, as it allows for the breaking of durable aluminum oxides (which have a higher melting point than the metal) in the positive phase and achieving deeper penetration of the weld in the negative phase. This process, called the cleaning effect, enables the creation of homogeneous and high-quality welds. Although it requires experience and appropriate welder settings (current balance), it is indispensable when welding aluminum and magnetized materials, providing good cleaning properties and quick filling.
  • Direct current (DC): In the case of TIG DC welding, the welding current flows in one direction, with heat concentration mainly on the electrode. To protect the electrode and achieve better melting, the electrode is connected to the negative pole.
  • Filler materials: Additional metal is manually introduced into the welding pool.
  • Protection: The process takes place under a shield of inert gas (usually argon), which protects the arc and material from contamination from the air.

Key features and functions of TIG welders at 400V

  • 400V power supply: Guarantees high power, allowing work with thicker materials and in heavy conditions.
  • TIG AC method: Enables welding of aluminum alloys.
  • TIG DC method: Allows precise welding of black steel, stainless steel, titanium.
  • IGBT inverter technology: Provides reliability, lower energy consumption, and better arc stability.
  • PULSE function: Enables pulsed welding, allowing for better control of the process and welding of thin materials due to limited heat input.
  • Arc ignition: The possibility of contactless (HF) or contact (LIFT) arc ignition.
  • Operating modes: Availability of 2T (two-stroke) and 4T (four-stroke) modes to choose the method of controlling the process.
  • Overvoltage protection: Protects the device from instability in the power supply network.

Handle cooler: In professional sets, a cooler is often included, which provides efficient cooling of the TIG handle when working with high currents.
