Construction of coated electrodes:
The coated electrode consists of a metal core, which is an additional material (filler) and the coating. The coating contains various components, such as minerals, organic materials, metals, and iron alloys. During welding, the coating melts, producing shielding gas and slag.
Types of coated electrodes for MMA welding.
For welding steel with MMA coated electrodes (manual arc welding with a coated electrode), various types of electrodes are used, depending on the type of steel and the requirements of the weld. The most commonly encountered are basic, rutile, and cellulose electrodes.
They are characterized by high ductility of the weld metal and good resistance to cold and hot cracking. Used for welding steel with a high carbon content, low-alloy, and high-alloy steels. They require drying before welding unless they are in vacuum packaging. They can be used in all positions except vertical down. They perform well when welding thick and rigid components.
Universal, suitable for welding many types of steel. They provide a smooth weld surface and easily removable slag. They usually do not require drying.
- Cellulose electrodes (C):
Ideal for field welding, outdoors, e.g., pipelines. They can be used in all positions, including vertical down. They do not require drying before welding.
- Other types of electrodes:
Acid electrodes (A): They provide welds with a smooth face but average mechanical properties.
Special electrodes: There are also electrodes with rutile-acid, rutile-basic, rutile-cellulose coatings, or rutile electrodes with a thick coating.
The selection of MMA coated electrodes depends on:
Different electrodes will be suitable for carbon steel and others for stainless steel.
Durability, crack resistance, and appearance of the weld are factors influencing the choice of electrode.
Some electrodes perform well in welding in various positions.
Welding in the field, in closed spaces, or at different temperatures.
Coated electrodes can weld any material. MMA welding is a method that allows for low-cost joining of two metal elements. Additional features such as ARC FORCE or HOT START, which can be adjusted on the welding machine, will help less experienced welders achieve the desired effect.
On the market, the selection of electrodes as well as welding devices is very large. For those who value high quality, we have prepared a wide range in terms of type, diameter, and packaging sizes.
